Supetar se nalazi na sjevernoj strani otoka Brača, jednog od najatraktivnijih i najposjećenijih dalmatinskih otoka.

Brač je najveći srednje-dalmatinski otok (395 km2) koji od kopna i grada Splita dijeli samo Brački kanal. Pripada mediteranskom podneblju i karakteriziran je dugim i osobito toplim ljetima te kratkim i blagim zimama. Sa više od 134 dana potpuno vedrog neba i više od 2 700 sunčanih sati u godini to je najsunčanije jadransko područje.

Otok Brač / The Island of Brač

Supetar is situated on the north side of the island of Brač, one of the most attractive Dalmatian islands.

Brač is the largest central Dalmatian island (395 km2) separated from the mainland by the Brač Channel. Brač is caracterized by the mediteranian climate which is known for its long and hot summers and mild winters. This area is blessed with more than 134 sunny days and 2 700 sunny hours in one year.

Smješten u uvali Svetog Petra, po kojem je dobio ime, Supetar je najveći grad na otoku Braču te kulturno, gospodarsko i turističko središte otoka u kojem živi petina stanovnika Brača.

Povijesno, Supetar datira još od vremena Rimljana i prvih kršćana. Postepeno se širio okolo crkve sv. Petra koja je smještena u centru predivne prirodne uvale. Najveći razvoj dolazi u 18. st. kada Supetar preuzima primat na otoku i početkom 19. st. postaje glavni grad otoka Brača.

SUPETAR

Situated in the cove of St Peter by which it obtained its name,  Supetar is the biggest settlement on the island of Brač and the cultural, economical and turist capital of the island with population of 3 000.

Historically, Supetar dates from the time of Romans and the first Christians. It gradually expanded around the St Peter's Chuch which is located at the coast of a magnificent cove. The 18th century was the time of Supetar's greatest expansion and at the beginning of the 19th century Supetar became the capital of the island of Brač.

Osim prekrasnih plaža i brojnih restorana, Supetar karakeriziraju i kulturne znamenitosti poput:

• Župna crkva iz 18. stoljeća sa zvonikom i crkveni muzej sa ranim kršćanskim mozaikom iz 6. stoljeća

Besides the beautiful beaches and numerous restaurants, Supetar is also famuous for its monuments:

• The parish church from the 18th century with a bell tower and church museum with an early Christian mosaics from the 6th century
• The chapel of St. Martin from the 18th century
• The Petrinovic Family mausoleum in the cemetery
• Cemetery church of St. Nicholas with two Early Christian sarcophagi and the ruins of Roman Villa Rustica
• The church of St. Rochus from the 18th century,
• Sculptures by Ivan Rendić and Petar Jakšić

U okolici Supetra se također nalaze brojne znamenitosti vrijedne posjete:

• Bol - jedna od najposjećenijih hrvatskih turističkih destinacija, poznata po jedinstvenoj ljepoti plaže Zlatni Rat
• Pustinja Blaca - nekada sklonište poljičkih glagoljaša, danas poznata zvjezdarnica
• Vidova Gora -  najviši vrh na otoku Braču (778 m)
• Zmajeva špilja - u Murvici, gdje se može vidjeti reljef zmaja urezan u kamen prije više stotina godina
• Park prirode u Sutivanu - izletište smješteno u srcu borove šume
• Proizvodnja sapuna "Brač fini sapuni" u Postirama- tradicionalna obiteljska proizvodnja sapuna koja kombinira esencije gospine trave, kadulje, ružmarina, maslinovog ulja i lavande

The surrounding of Supetar also offers numerous sites worh visiting:

• Bol - one of the most attractive Croatian tourist destinations, famuous for it's overwhelmingly beautiful  Zlatni Rat beach
• Blaca Desert - the first shelter of land hermits, nowadays is a famous astronomical observatory
• Vidova Gora - the highest peak of the island of Brač at elevation of 778 m over the see level
• Dragon's cave - located above the village of Murvica, famuous for the relief of a dragon carved into the stone hundreds of years ago
• Park of nature Sutivan - an extraordinary excursion site  situated in the pine forrest near Sutivan
• "Brač fini sapuni" soap manufacturer in Postira - traditional familiy soap manufacturing that combines St John's wort, sage, rosemary, olive oil and lavender essences

DOGAĐANJA

Već nekoliko godina zaredom Turistička zajednica grada Supetra tijekom listopada organizira manifestaciju "Festival grožđa i vina" posvećenu vareniku.

Varenik je tradicionalan dodatak jelima poznat još od doba starih Grka i Rimljana, a dobiva se dugotrajnim ukuhavanjem groždanog mošta. Zahvaljujući svojoj izuzetnoj i snažnoj aromi odličan je dodatak najrazličitijim jelima, od juha, pašticada pa sve do najrazličitijih kolača i slastica.

EVENTS

For several years in a row, in October, the Supetar Tourist Board has been the organizer of "The grape and wine festival" a manifestation dedicated to varenik.

Varenik is a traditional seasoning, known to the ancient Greeks and Romans, that is made of cooked grape must. Bacause of its exceptional and aromatic flavour, varenik is a perfect seasoning for all types of dishes- soups, brodettos, as well as for cakes and sweets.
